Description

The Cascade hops we used in Summer of the Seventeenth Hop were grown on our premises in Railton, Tasmania but their origins are in the USA, as is the yeast and the style we were chasing when we decided to do a fresh hop beer (a rarity for us). It finished a little high but is dangerously easy to drink, the palate light and tending to dry, the hop character complementary, not chewy.

We had fun chopping up the green hops with our whipper-snipper before brewing. This took very little time compared to the cleaning job to ensure the whipper-snipper was food-safe… we’re talking scrubbing brushes, tooth-brushes and lots of bleach.

Inspired by a chat with retiring Hobart Brewing Company head brewer Scott Overdorf, with a little nod to New Zealand’s Workshop Brewing Company’s Chop Hop, plus the famous Summer of the Seventeenth Doll Australian play, Summer of the Seventeenth H0p is a unique #Tassiestyle fresh hop brew.

We didn’t put a lot of this beer into bottles so hop to it if you’d like to try it.
